Annual high school spring musicals are always a special time, allowing students to display their talents while signifying the end of the school year is nearing.
But Thomas Jefferson High School’s upcoming performance of “Peter Pan” holds a special distinction for the musical’s cast and crew.
The March 19, 20 and 21 performances are the first musical to be performed in the school’s new theater, which has a capacity of more than 1,000 seats.
And as part of the $95 million new high school that opened in August, the auditorium boasts the professional Electronic Theater Controls computer software platform, which means students operating the system now have at their fingertips the same technology, lights, rigs and consoles used by Broadway blockbusters in New York City.
A legendary story that originates as far as back as 1902, “Peter Pan” tells the tale of the mischievous and free-spirited title character who never grows up, spending his never-ending childhood on the mythical island of Neverland, interacting with pirates, mermaids, children and fairies.
