BVA’s Weightman advances to semis

Twenty-five wrestlers from four local Class 3A schools traveled to Canon-McMillan High School Friday night with high hopes of capturing  a WPIAL championship.  

Seven made it as far as the quarterfinals, but only one is still alive heading into the semifinals.

Belle Vernon Area sophomore Cole Weightman won two matches by pinfall – both of which were inside of a minute – to advance to today’s semifinal match against Canon-McMillan’s Evan Miller.

Weightman (27-1), the No. 2 seed at 220 pounds, was dominant, earning pins in 54 and 41 seconds over Moon’s Andrew Sampson and Ed Farrell from Fox Chapel, respectively.
