A section of Route 906 just north of Interstate 70 was closed for about two hours Tuesday after a man was spotted on a nearby railroad trestle bridge apparently threatening to jump.
Westmoreland and Fayette County 911 centers received the call around 2:50 p.m. Police from Rostraver Township, Southwest Regional and North Belle Vernon were called to the scene, as were firefighters from Rostraver Central, Belle Vernon and Jeannette and river rescue crews from Lock Four, Collinsburg and the Webster swiftwater rescue teams and the Rostraver West Newton Emergency Medical Services.
Rostraver Police Sgt. Dan Cope said the 54-year-old man from Elizabeth was distraught. At one point he was seen walking out over the river, but then moved back over the shore area.
A ladder truck from Jeannette was called in so police negotiators could get closer to the man to try to talk to him. Cope said after talking to the man for a while, he decided on his own to come down.
