Jeffrey Scales, a member of the Mon Valley Jeepers board, believes owning a Jeep is an extraordinary experience.
“When you own a Jeep, you enter into this fraternity that’s hard to explain,” Scales said. “But it’s a universal fraternity that happens all over the country, all over the world, really, where Jeep owners get together and celebrate their ownership and the capabilities of the vehicle.”
The Mon Valley Jeepers, which gathers local Jeep fans for meet-ups, off-road activities and charity events, has now been around for about 10 years. The club’s Facebook group boasts almost 800 members.
The Jeepers host events around the Valley about once a month, bringing admirers of the vehicle together for fun and camaraderie.
The group recently raised $1,700 for Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania, a non-profit organization that raises awareness of domestic violence and provides housing and services to victims.
“The domestic violence event we do is near and dear to a couple of our members, so that’s one of the main reasons we do that event,” said Mon Valley Jeepers President Thomas Fronzaglio. “That’s one of our biggest events we do, to raise awareness of domestic violence. It’s not just women, it’s men. Anything we can to help out that organization, we try to do.”
