Vulcans set to host IUP

When the Cal U men take on visiting Indiana tonight in a huge PSAC contest, the Vulcans will be battling two opponents.
Not only will the first-place Crimson Hawks (19-2, 14-2) be invading the Convocation Center for the 7:30 p.m. tip, but the Vulcans (15-7, 11-5) will also be taking on a gorilla … a very huge gorilla.
The gorilla is IUP’s long winning streak against the Vulcans. IUP has beaten Cal the last 12 times they have played, including an 86-69 win at Indiana in January. The last time the Vulcans celebrated a win over the Crimson Hawks was way back in 2014.
Cal is in fourth place in the PSAC West, but only one game out of third and two games from second place.
“It’s been a while (since Cal beat IUP), but I don’t think we’re alone. They’ve been the dominant team in the conference the past 12 years and I’m sure they have a record similar to that against a lot of teams,” said Cal U second-year head coach Danny Sancomb, who has quickly turned around the Vulcans’ expectations after going 8-19 in his first season. “They are ranked in the top 10 (in the country) and lead the conference. They are coming to our place and we are excited to play them.”
