Bertha Louise Dietz – Fitz Henry, Pa.

By obits

Bertha Louise Dietz, 80, of Fitz Henry, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Horn Dietz, she was born in Fitz Henry on July 14, 1939.   Bertha was a 1957 graduate of South Huntingdon High School. She always started her day reading her Bible and doing her devotions. Bertha enjoyed doing jigsaw, crosswords, seek-and-find puzzles and playing scrabble and dominoes. One of her ministries was helping others whenever she could. When she couldn’t drive anymore, she would call people and pray with them, giving them words of encouragement, singing for their birthdays and at Christmastime. With her outgoing personality, she acquired many friends through the years. She was always ready to tell anyone she knew and met about the Lord that she loved and served. Bertha was a member of the Smithton Church of the Nazarene, where she held many offices through the years. She loved going to church and being with family and friends, enjoyed going shopping and then going out to eat. Her first place of employment was at S&Y Foodland and later at BoltTech and W.H.S Thermcoil. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed, now enjoying heaven, safe in the arms of Jesus. She is survived by two sisters, Josephine Yokiel of Grindstone and Margaret Herron and husband Roy of Belle Vernon; two brothers, John Dietz and wife Josephine of Elyria, Ohio, and Joseph Dietz of Havencrest Rehabilitation in Monongahela; a sister-in-law, Janice Dietz of Fitz Henry; a brother-in-law, Ed Gavlak of Westmoreland Manor in Greensburg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and George Dietz; two sisters, Thelma Gavlak and Gloria Harvison; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Yokiel and Wilson Harvison; and a sister-in-law, Betty Dietz. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in Smithton Church of the Nazarene, 157 Fitz Henry Road, Smithton, PA 15479, with the Rev. Michael R. Beckley officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery.
