A day after Shane Stump missed the entire second half of a game against Moon due to a knee injury, Thomas Jefferson head coach Dom DeCicco laid out a challenge to his senior forward: Score 15 points and collect 10 rebounds.
Not only did Stump accept the challenge, but he passed with flying colors, collecting a double-double in Thomas Jefferson’s non-section victory over visiting Belle Vernon Area Wednesday night.
Stump netted a game-high 22 points and added 10 boards for the Jaguars (14-7) in the Senior Night triumph.
“We didn’t know if he was going to play and I even texted him earlier in the day telling him we need him for the playoffs and I would rather him be healthy,” DeCicco said. “But he’s a warrior, he’s a competitor and I know how he likes playing against (Belle Vernon). When I saw him take off his knee brace before the game, I said, “Yeah, he’s ready to go.’”
