Elizabeth Township is taking steps to tackle blight, including looking for ways to reduce demolition costs.
Commissioner Andrew Kuzma said the code enforcement committee is looking into three ordinances to address blight issues, including utilizing state Act 90 to place liens against personal property for code enforcement actions taken in the township, even if the additional property is not in the township.
Kuzma said the committee is also looking into demolitions in neighborhoods that serve as entrances to the township, including his own neighborhood, the village of Industry, where there were several fires recently.
“People think if there is a fire the house is automatically torn down,” Kuzma said. “They don’t understand that the process can take a year.”
