Late basket gives Brentwood critical win over California

Sometimes a basketball comes down to one possession and one shot.
In a critical, Section 2-2A contest for California, Brentwood was able to get that one last shot to go in and snap the Trojans’ five-game winning streak on Friday with a 58-56 triumph.
After two free throws by Matt Trunzo gave Cal a 56-55 lead with 58 seconds left in regulation, the visitors were stymied on their first shot attempt. After a loose ball was corralled inside the paint, a pass went to a wide-open Zach Keib, who drilled the game-winning 3-pointer.
“We just didn’t get that rebound and the ball just bounced right to one of their better shooters,” Trojans coach Aaron Balla said. “Sometimes you’re unlucky. It was a close game throughout and I figured it was going to come down to the final minute. We just didn’t have enough ball control late and we didn’t execute at the end.”
The Trojans (10-8, 5-5) had one last desperation heave to the basket, but the shot was offline and they suffered their first loss since Jan. 10.
