A portion of Bunola River Road in Forward Township will close indefinitely beginning today.
According to Forward Township police, the road will be closed between Regina Drive and Riverview Road for public safety reasons.
According to police, a temporary traffic signal installed in the area has been ignored by drivers.
Police Chief Travis Stoffer said the light was installed more than a year ago to help control traffic in the area. Instead of helping the situation, it has caused more problems and several accidents.
“Too many drivers have ignored the temporary traffic signal, causing a significant safety issue,” Stoffer said. “The decision has been made by PennDOT to close the road effective immediately.”
At first, police had problems with the batteries in the traffic light staying charged.
After a generator used to correct the issue was stolen, they found a new solution that had worked well for the past year.
