Joseph J. ‘Moe’ Weir – Donora

Joseph J. “Moe” Weir, 80, of Donora, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township. He was born Sept. 3, 1939, in Donora, son of the late Joseph Weir and the late Dolly Bruno Weir. He was a member of the St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Donora American Legion Ernest E. Jobes Post No. 212, the American Croatian Citizens Club and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Joe was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army from May 1963 to May 1965. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Fincik Weir, on Dec. 18, 2016. Surviving to cherish his memory are his three sons, Jason Giffin and his wife Roseanne of Elizabeth, James Weir and fiancée Erica Popowitz of Belle Vernon and Joseph Weir of Donora; four grandchildren, Brady, Isabella, Lily and Ava; two sisters, Carol Weir of Donora and Mary (Greg) McFeely of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Frank Weir of Donora; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are being handled by ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Donora Campus of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. Full military rites will be accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
