Still using last year’s season as motivation, South Allegheny continued setting their sights on those teams that beat them.

Next up was Shady Side Academy, who handed the Gladiators a pair of losses last year, and it was South Allegheny checking another team off the list.

Omar Faulkner scored 22 points and added 10 rebounds to lead the Gladiators to a 58-49 win over the Indians.

Faulkner finished with 12 points in the first quarter and finished with 18 in the first half.

“We want to make him a point of emphasis every night. Tonight he was able to get some energy and some momentum early,” said South Allegheny coach Tony DiCenzo.

“That’s who he could be every night, and if we can get that version of him every night we’re going to be a tough team to beat.”

Faulkner made his presence known early, throwing down an emphatic dunk and scoring the Gladiators’ first six points.

Throughout Faulkner’s dominant first quarter, Shady Side Academy (4-6, 1-3) stuck around, as the Gladiators’ held onto an 18-14 lead.
