Mon Valley reunion set in sunny Florida

More than 100 Mon Valley snowbirds and former residents will bask in the Florida sunshine next month as they come together for their 40th annual reunion.

The 2020 Florida Mon Valley Reunion is set for noon Feb. 29 at Cody’s Original Roadhouse in Clearwater.

Once again, Dr. John Hisiro and wife, Carol, of Fallowfield Township are organizing the informal gathering. Hisiro said the combination of warm weather, Cody’s relaxed atmosphere and a mutual love for the Mon Valley makes the reunion a success year after year.

“There are no speeches. It’s a laid-back gathering where we can sit around and talk and enjoy good food,” John Hisiro said.

The Mon Valley Florida Reunion is one of several events that bring together former Valley residents living in the Sunshine State, as well as those who live here and elsewhere in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Hisiro, a Charleroi Area High School graduate, said more than 150 people attended last year’s event, including snowbirds who flock there for the winter and those who have moved elsewhere throughout the United States.

He said the event brings together “people with ties to the Mon Valley” for reminiscing in a casual atmosphere. It is open to “anyone and everyone” originally from the Mon Valley who still lives there or anywhere else.
