State Rep. Austin Davis   recently delivered good news for homeowners in Clairton on behalf of the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

“I’m happy to announce that $41,250 in tax credits granted under the Neighborhood Assistance Program will enhance Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh’s renovation and modification efforts in Clairton,” said the McKeesport Democrat. “This is an organization that does great work in the Mon Valley, providing low-income homeowners a helping hand with home repairs, which ultimately improves their quality of life.”

NAP is a tax credit program with several sub-programs that are administered by DCED. The aim of the program is to encourage businesses to invest in projects that improve distressed areas and support neighborhood conservation.

Projects must fall under one of several categories: affordable housing programs, community services, crime prevention, education, job training or neighborhood assistance. A tax credit of up to 55% can be awarded to businesses that participate in the NAP.

The Clairton tax credits are being doled out via the Special Program Priorities program, which targets specific problems and projects that the state has designated as a high priority.

Davis said Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh will utilize the tax credits to work in unison with other local service providers to provide low-income homeowners with renovations and modifications to their homes, which “will allow these homeowners to continue living independently while also enhancing the economic revitalization of their neighborhood.”
