Schools benefit from ArcelorMittal’s entertainment venture

Over the past year, Monessen’s schools received $50,000 from ArcelorMittal to assist the district’s STEM programming and development.

The conventional coke plant, located in Monessen, donated the total in two $25,000 installments. The funds were made possible after the facilities served as a filming site for the CBS All Access television series “One Dollar.”

Plant manager Randy Shelton was contacted by location scouts from the series, who told him they were looking for an industrial space to do some filming. The series had been in production in both Pittsburgh and Rankin.

After the request, Shelton approached the ArcelorMittal corporate structure to make sure the filming would meet safety requirements and could be approved.

“I asked if there was any experience at other facilities with any other filming, and they told me yes,” he said.
