Local students will have a chance to register to be part of the new Mon Valley Rowing Club at two upcoming registration event days.
Team registration days for the Mon Valley Rowing Club have been set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5. The event will take place at Uncle KoKo’s WoodFired Pizzeria, Rostraver Township.
The club is open to students in grades eight through 11, and is not limited to any specific school district because it is a club team comprising districts from Monongahela to Brownsville. To be a part of the rowing club, members must pass a swimming test. No other tests, relays or physical requirements are necessary.
The cost for rowers per season is $1,500 and can be paid in a single installment or in monthly payments of $500.
Stevens said cost is not considered a restrictive factor and scholarships are available for interested students. Scholarships are need-based and cover up to 95% of the total costs.
These scholarships may come with other commitments such as community service and mentoring. An emphasis for registration is placed on students considered “at risk,” according to the club’s website.
For payment information, visit the website at monvalleyrowingclub.org. Winter training is scheduled to begin Jan. 6.
