The holidays will kick off in Elizabeth Thursday evening as the borough celebrates Light Up Night.
The streets in the downtown area will be closed off to vehicular traffic between 6:30 and 8 p.m., with festivities starting with the Elizabeth Community Choir singing carols next to the Christmas tree.
According to Stephanie Ziacan, one of the event organizers, there will be free craft booths where children can decorate their own cookies and Christmas ornaments. Ziacan said the Elsa and Olaf characters from “Frozen” will also visit.
“Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming in on the fire truck at 7 and will officially light the tree,” Ziacan said.
