Carroll Township residents may face a nominal tax increase next year as supervisors approved a tentative 2020 budget last week.
Carroll Township secretary Sharon Cramer said the township faces annual increases in insurance, salaries and other bills. The millage rate will increase from .864 to 1.0344. The current rate brings in about $25,000 per year.
“We keep receiving increases in bills and we are losing money on tax appeals,” Cramer said. “There have been months that we have lost $100,000 in tax appeals.”
Before the Washington County-wide real estate tax assessment, the township millage rate was 6.6 mills.
Supervisor James Harrison said this year’s proposed tax increase is “very minimal.”
