State Sen. Jim Brewster and state Rep. Austin Davis, both McKeesport Democrats,  joined forces to hold a breakfast for veterans and their families Friday morning at the Gen. Smedley D. Butler American Legion Post 701 in White Oak.

They joined several other local officials to thank more than 160 men and women from the Valley who have served in the Army and Army Reserves, the Navy, the Marines, the Air Force and the Coast Guard.

The elected officials took photos with every veteran at the breakfast and gave each of them a commemorative lapel pin from the U.S. Congress and a certificate of appreciation from the state House of Representatives.

Davis said he worked with Brewster to hold the breakfast because “it’s important to take a pause and say thank you to those who have sacrificed so much for our community and our country.”
