The McKeesport Unit of the NAACP held its annual Freedom Dinner recently, honoring two Mon Valley residents, along with a community organization and an area business.

The dinner, which has been held annually for 59 years, was dedicated to the memory of Ocie and Alease Paige. NAACP McKeesport Unit President Brenda Sawyer said those at the dinner reflected upon “the love, the life and the legacy of two people who have served well — Ocie and Alease.”

The Paiges were NAACP McKeesport Unit members for many years, and Ocie Paige served several terms as president. He died April 17 at age 80. Alease Paige died Feb. 3 at 77.
