Jane Elizabeth Morton Foster – formerly of New Eagle and Monongahela
My dear mother, Jane Elizabeth Morton Foster, was called to heaven on Aug. 13, 2019. She was born on May 12, 1930, in New Eagle, to Joseph and Mary Fitch Morton. She grew up in the neighboring town of Monongahela and graduated from Monongahela High School in 1948. While in high school she and 11 of her girl friends formed a group and called themselves “The Sharks”. They remained loyal friends through the years. After graduating from Penn State University, she married my father, moved to Dayton, Ohio, and then to Orlando, Fla., in 1959. My mom was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Orlando, loved to play bridge and was a social worker for many years. In retirement she volunteered at the Orlando Public Library and took on the responsibilities of scheduling volunteers to usher for performances of the Philharmonic, Opera, Ballet and Broadway shows. She enjoyed a weekly poker game with some of her neighbors and she also enjoyed making several trips back up to Monongahela for her class reunions. My mom and I were very fortunate to take several trips together through Europe, Canada and the United States. In 2002 when I married my husband, Craig, who she often referred to as her son, she gained another travel partner. We were able to revisit some of our favorite places and explore new countries and cities that we had not been to before. My mom loved to travel and her suitcase was always ready. My mom will be deeply missed by my husband and me, Craig and Laura Stoughton. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved brother, William Morton. A memorial service was held at her church in Orlando on Sept. 7, 2019. A small graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at Monongahela Cemetery.
