The Connellsville hockey team and visiting Ringgold played a very even game for about a period and a half of Thursday’s PIHL Division B matchup at the Ice Mine.
After that, the Rams dominated, breaking the game open with five goals in the third period on the way to a 7-1 win.
“In the first period, we played our game. We played our game to a tee,” Connellsville coach Ray Brown said. “We played our system, played our game, and it was very effective. About halfway through the second period, we lost our focus. Against a team like that, to lose focus …”
At that point, the Falcons already were trailing, thanks to a first-period goal from Justin Day. The goal was contested by a vocal Connellsville crowd, but it stood, as did Ringgold’s 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.
Nathan Todd made it 2-0 early in the second off assists from Day and Ethan Saylor.
