Standoff ends peacefully in Rostraver Township

After nearly six hours, a police standoff in Rostraver Township came to a peaceful conclusion Thursday night.
Rostraver police were called to West Spring Grove Boulevard in the Renaissance Heights neighborhood around 2:20 p.m. for a report of a man threatening to harm himself with a gun.
The 33-year old, who was not identified, barricaded himself and his weapon inside the home.
Rostraver Township Police Lt. John Christner said his family was reported safe and was not inside the home during the incident.
As of 4 p.m., nearly a dozen houses in the vicinity of the home had been evacuated.
The man was not initially communicating with police, and the state police Special Emergency Response Team was called in to assist at the scene.
