Neighborhood watch sought in Donora

Two women spoke out at Donora borough council’s meeting Thursday about their experiences during home burglaries this year, and they both had ideas about how safety might be improved in their neighborhoods.
Jennifer Hall Brookins posted on social media about her family’s experience Oct. 1 when she reported that three men broke into her home with guns and demanded money. She questioned how such things can happen and said neighbors and residents should attend this week’s council meeting to “devise a plan.”
The comments section of the post devolved into a bit of police bashing, and Brookins tried to reel it back in and direct the conversation to the potential formation of a neighborhood watch.
During his report Thursday night, Mayor Jim McDonough spoke out against the negativity aimed at the police force throughout the comments on the post.
“I have three years of police reports,” McDonough said. “It’s getting better. Burglaries are down; everything is down. Overdoses are going down — the numbers don’t lie.”
