Monessen firefighters offer warning about fundraising letters

Monessen firefighters want residents to know the fundraising request letters in circulation are not related to either of the two Monessen volunteer fire stations.
The letters are marked with the emblem of “The Volunteer Firefighter Alliance” and ask “residents of Monessen” to make donations via mail to the organization, which is based in Houston, Texas.
Firefighter Donald Berger said the letter looks professional and closely resembles the letter the two fire departments send out.
“That has nothing to do with the volunteer firefighters of Monessen, and I would like the public to know this has nothing to do with our organizations,” Berger said, adding that an older woman in the community whose son is a firefighter was targeted by the solicitation.
