Thomas Jefferson stayed unbeaten Friday night with a defensive triumph in a 40-0 win over Trinity at Hiller Stadium. The Jaguars’ defense held the Hillers to 48 yards of offense and three first downs.
While the result was never in doubt, the Jaguars put the game away for good with a trio of touchdowns with less than three minutes to play in the first half, including a pick-six by Michael Huber.
Thomas Jefferson scored on its opening drive, taking to the air with the arm of Shane Stump. The senior quarterback connected with Ian Hansen for a 16-yard completion. Then Stump launched a beautiful pass downfield 36 yards to Daniel Deabner, who made an over-the-shoulder catch to set the Jaguars up with a first and goal on the 3-yard line. Stump quickly found Preston Zandier in the end zone for the touchdown to give Thomas Jefferson a 6-0 lead.
With under 2:00 to play in the first quarter, Stump dumped a pass to the outside right to Hansen, who ran 56 yards for the Jaguars second touchdown of the game, taking a 12-0 lead into the second quarter.
