Monessen promotes 4 police officers

Once they pass drug screenings, psychological evaluations and have medical physicals, four additional full-time police officers will begin patrolling the streets of Monessen.

Councilmen Anthony Orzechowski and David Feehan and Councilwoman Lois Thomas unanimously voted Thursday to promote officers Alan Hritz, James Stolen, Dominic Faieta and Rebekah Shrader to full-time positions, contingent on them “passing all necessary clearances and processing of necessary paperwork.”

Councilman Gil Coles was absent from the meeting, as was Mayor Matt Shorraw who hasn’t attended a meeting in nearly 16 months. Coles and Shorraw also did not participate in police contract negotiation meetings, according to Orzechowski.

All four officers were pulled from the department’s civil service test list and have been working for the city as part-time officers.
