Serra Catholic girls volleyball coach Keith Trahan is no stranger to success beyond the regular season.
Entering his seventh season at the helm, Trahan has led the Eagles to six straight playoff berths, including six quarterfinal appearances and three trips to the semifinals.
One of those semifinal appearances came last season when Serra went 15-3 overall and 12-0 in section play. The Eagles entered the WPIAL playoffs as the No. 3 seed, defeating Ellwood City in the first round and Neshannock in the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual WPIAL champions from North Catholic in the semis. Serra’s season ended with a first-round state playoff loss to Bald Eagle.
As glorious as it was, last season is now in the rear-view mirror.
Despite having to replace a trio of valuable starters from last year’s team, Trahan’s bunch is setting its sights on 2019, a year in which expectations remain as high as they’ve always been.
“We lost three long-time starters and there is always a bit of transition, but we’ve dealt with that before,” Trahan said. “We’ve been a pretty good program for quite a while now, so the expectations are the same. Our goal is to win a WPIAL title. There is a lot of good competition but I think we’ll be very good.”
