Charter school reform receives local support

A local senator is all for Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to reform charter school law — and the Pennsylvania School Board Association is too.
Sen. Jim Brewster said he welcomes the proposal to change Pennsylvania’s charter school regulations and institute reforms through administrative action.
Wolf proposed a comprehensive approach to charter reform last week, instructing the state Department of Education develop regulations to increase access, transparency, funding equity and accountability.
“Pennsylvania’s charter school law is unfair for students, parents, school districts and taxpayers,” Wolf said. “While many charter schools are succeeding, others, especially some cyber charter schools, are under-performing and we are not doing enough to hold them accountable to the taxpaying public and the children they serve.”
