Valley Oldies: Belated request delivers readers to news of 1969

That time-honored theory of “Better late than never” might be appropriate today as we fulfill a request from those ever-faithful 19 readers who actually follow this weekly offering.
“You recently mentioned something that took place on June 11, 1969, and we’re wondering if there was more to that date,” said the spokesperson for the group. “If it’s not too much of a strain for you, how about taking a belated look at that day in history.”
Grateful again for the archives of The Valley Independent and The Daily Republican of Monongahela, here’s some of what filled the pages of those publications 50 years ago — on Wednesday, June 11, 1969.
