GE Vernova buys Rostraver warehouse
Township officials are uncertain about what the company plans to do with the property.
GE Vernova, formerly part of General Electric, spent $70 million to purchase a distribution center in Rostraver last month, strengthening the Massachusetts-based power generation equipment manufacturer’s presence in Pennsylvania.
Westmoreland County property records show GE Vernova subsidiary GE Renewables Grid LLC purchased the more than 700,000-square-foot property from Gordon One LLC. Rostraver Board of Commissioners President Jeffrey Johnson said details are still developing on the purchase.
“We’re aware that GE purchased them, but at this point, I’m not sure what their plans are for the building,” Johnson said. “GE is a big company. I’d be interested to see what they’re planning to do there.
“We’re always looking for businesses to come in, and we don’t want to lose businesses. So it’s nice that a large company is investing in our community. But again, we’re looking forward to seeing what they’re planning on using the building for.”
Johnson said they hope to hear from GE Vernova soon.
Commissioner Gary Beck reiterated that the township is happy to see a business come into Rostraver.
“I’m just glad to see they’re investing in Rostraver Township, and I’m sure we will work with them in whatever endeavor they want to do,” Beck said.
The property known as Amcel Center Two is located along Finley Road in Rostraver Township. GE Vernova leased about 150,000 square feet in the building before buying it.
GE Vernova, which is headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., was created when General Electric split into three companies in 2024. Gordon One LLC is connected to Amcel Center Properties, which still owns a warehouse in East Huntingdon.
Not too far from Rostraver, GE Vernova already runs a factory in Speers that makes high-voltage switchgear products to manage the flow of power on the electric grid. According to GE Vernova, the Speers facility specifically designs, produces and services high voltage circuit breakers and instrument transformers.
In July, the company announced it’s adding 250 jobs at its Speers plant. In the same announcement, GE Vernova announced that it will spend $100 million across multiple facilities in Pennsylvania over the next two years. The investment is expected to add around 700 new jobs across the state.
“We are investing in Charleroi (Speers) and our advanced grid technology because it complements the investments we’ve made in power generation,” Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, said last year. “For the US to lead in energy, manufacturing critical domestic grid infrastructure is just as important generation.”
GE Vernova is also supplying seven natural gas turbines for a 4.5-gigawatt power plant in Homer City, which will be primarily used to power on-site data centers. Construction is expected to finish in 2029 for the Homer City facility.
