Friday’s Buffalo Rose concert, which was part of the McKeesport Riverfront Concert Series was canceled due to pop-up thunderstorms and a flash flood warning in Allegheny County.
“Please stay tuned for more information as we work to reschedule this concert for a weekend in September,” Mayor Michael Cherepko said in a written statement, adding that updates will be posted to the City of McKeesport Mayor’s Office Facebook page.
The free concert series, which is in its inaugural year, is held at the amphitheater at Gergely Riverfront Park. It is designed to raise funds via food sales and donation boxes for the Penn McKee revitalization project being considered by the McKee’s Point Development group.
The nonprofit recently released a feasibility study for the building conducted by the Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh. No decisions have been made about whether the building will be one day reopened, but the group hopes to someday see it be a boutique hotel with restaurant, event and retail space.
