AMD, State Farm ready to battle for Grebb title

Prior to Monday’s semifinal matchup between AMD Industries and Belle Vernon Dairy Queen, Dax Thomas State Farm head coach Tom Rodriguez had an idea of who he wanted to face in tonight’s Grebb League girls championship game.

Rodriguez, who had just coached his team to a 46-17 victory over Cedarbrook, said he would be lying if he said he didn’t want another shot at an AMD team that swept the regular season series from his squad. Both meetings ended with AMD claiming a four-point victory.

Rodriguez got what he desired as No. 2 State Farm will take on top-seeded AMD Industries at 8:30 p.m. for the title in the J. Budd Grebb Memorial Summer Basketball League’s girls division.

State Farm is looking for its third championship in four years after winning back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017 under head coach Dan Kovatch. A win tonight would give State Farm its first division crown under Rodriguez, who served as an assistant coach under Kovatch.
