A task force web portal to address landslides was launched Tuesday in Allegheny County.

The landslide task force created a landslide portal to provide practical and educational guidance to municipal leaders to help with preventative action and implement corrective action for slopes at risk from landslides and slope failures.

“When the task force first convened, one of the things we heard was that many of our partners had information regarding landslides and slope failures, but there was no mechanism to share that information,” said county Executive Rich Fitzgerald, who lauded landslide task force co-chairs Emergency Services Chief Matt Brown and Public Works Director Stephen G. Shanley.

“Under Chief Brown and Director Shanley’s leadership, this web portal was created to share that information, not only with our stakeholders and partners, but with municipal officials in the county so that they can use the tools to focus on prevention and taking steps to correct instabilities,” Fitzgerald said.
