Coaches disagree with PIAA decision

The PIAA board on Wednesday tabled a request for a pilot program in the WPIAL that would have transitioned referees to the “diagonal system of control” used by many soccer organizations worldwide.
For a number of local coaches, it’s an opportunity missed for local players, officials and coaches.
“I was hoping it would get passed,” Bentworth girls coach Tyler Hamstra said. “I think it would have been a progressive move that would bring some real consistency to the game. I’m pretty sure Pennsylvania is one of the last states or even the last, to have double dual.”
So, for now, WPIAL officials will continue using the “double dual” system to referee soccer games.
