Businesses urged to get involved with Streetscape
By Matt Petras
Local business involvement is vital for phase one of North Belle Vernon’s Streetscape development project, Jamie Protin of Mackin Engineering said at a meeting Sunday.
The first phase of the project, which received $150,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Agency and an additional $50,000 from the borough, will bring 12 to 14 new street lights, outlets for seasonal lights and attachments for overhead strand lights on Broad Avenue. There will also be efforts to organically connect the park in North Belle Vernon to Broad Avenue.
“We want to increase ease of mobility both for vehicles and pedestrians, thus getting more folks out of their cars and into your shops,” Protin said.
Construction will begin in the fall and should be completed by next spring. Two additional phases will carry work on the project to the spring of 2022.
