Local track and field stars stand out on day one of PIAA meet

A pair of local track and field athletes medaled during day one of the PIAA championships at Shippensburg University on Friday. 

Monessen’s Darnel Howell and Frazier’s Julian Muccioli each finished seventh in the Class 2A high jump and 2A long jump events, respectively. 

Howell, who won the WPIAL championship with a leap of 6-3 on May 16, placed seventh in the state with a mark of 6-3. 

In his first season competing in track and field, the Monessen senior owns the school record in the high jump with a jump of 6-8.
