Irene V. Hlatky – Wilmington, N.C.

Irene V. Hlatky, 92, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away peacefully at Lower Cape Fear Hospice on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. She was born in Brownfield, on April 1, 1927, to the late George and Anna Bednar Petey (Petty). She was the last of 10 siblings. Irene was a member of the former Holy Name Church and the Epiphany of our Lord Church in Monessen. She was a member of Jednota Branch 88 for over 65 years. She was a lifetime member of the M.V.C.C. and a past president of the Monessen Democratic Women’s Club. Irene was employed by Shop ’n Save and worked in the office for 20 years. She later worked for Giant Eagle until her retirement. Her hobbies were quilting and sewing samplers. She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Yank” Hlatky Jr.; her brothers, Adam, John, George, Frank, Joseph, Steve and Andrew; and her two sisters, Barbara (John) Kaminsky and Josephine (Chester) Galaski. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Annamarie and Russell Scuteri, with whom she made her home for the last 12 years in Wilmington, N.C.; and by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen. A blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church 44 Pennsylvania Blvd., Monessen, PA 15062, with Father Michael Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery. Should friends wish, donations in memory of Irene may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
