John Anthony Carney Jr., 88, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019. He was born May 24, 1930, in Elizabeth Township, the son of the late John Anthony Carney Sr., and the late Sadie Stella Fisher Carney. John was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Township and was retired from U.S. Steel. He worked for U.S. Steel in Clairton, Homestead and the Monroeville Research Center. He was also an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Cipollone Carney; sons, John Anthony (Diane) Carney III, of Croton, Ohio, and William F. (Christine) Carney of Elizabeth Township; daughter, Janice L. (Jeffrey) Allan of Liberty Borough; grandchildren, John M. (Gretchen) Carney, Matthew R. (Lindsay) Carney, Julia E. Carney, William Michael Carney, Zachary C. (Maria) Allan, and Jacob A. (Melanie) Allan; great-grandchildren, Colton, Case, Eden and Malcolm; sisters, Helen Brown of Clearwater, Fla., Patricia Masters of Laconia, N.H., Catherine (David) Leake of Uniontown; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Carney. Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019, at GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 6028 Smithfield St., Boston, Elizabeth Township, 412-751-5000, Drew J. Gilbert, Director. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Thomas Wagner officiating.
