Facing a must-win game Tuesday at Tom Rodriguez Field, the Belle Vernon Area softball team saw their playoff chances take a final, crushing blow after celebrating senior night for five seniors.
Thomas Jefferson scored four late runs to come away with a 5-1 win in Section 3-4A play, keeping the Leopards two games behind Ringgold for the fourth playoff spot with three games to go.
“We’re pretty much out now,” BVA coach Tom Rodriguez said. “We needed to win yesterday (against Ringgold) and it forced us to win today.”
The Jaguars (10-2, 6-2) picked up the go-ahead runs in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI groundout by Bella Bucy that scored Graci Fairman and advanced Claire Whalen to third.
