Eli, a K-9 officer with the Elizabeth Township Police Department for three years now, turned four recently.

Over the weekend, he got a lot of attention at his birthday party.

“The first year, everything was still new, so last year we started having his birthday party here,” said Dan Novacek, the patrolman who works with Eli. “More for the public than it is for him.”

The birthday party, held Saturday at Elizabeth Township Middle School, included demonstrations of Eli’s work ethic along with free food and desserts. It doubled as a fundraiser for the department’s K-9 and equipment fund.
