McKeesport-based Democratic state Rep. Austin Davis was appointed to the Port Authority of Allegheny County’s board of directors Thursday by state House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody, D-Oakmont.
The move by Dermody, a former Port Authority board member, gives Davis more oversight on public transportation services and issues in and around Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, which has been a high-priority subject for the sophomore state legislator since taking office.
Providing better access to public transportation for residents who live within the Mon Valley was one of Davis’ campaign promises when he ran for the seat.
“Providing efficient, easy-to-use public transportation for Allegheny County residents will continue to be a cornerstone of my time in public office,” Davis said. “Public transportation is a lifeline in Allegheny County. Without it, some residents wouldn’t be able to get to doctor’s appointments, pick up their children, or visit family.”
