Helen J. Dudgeon – Belle Vernon

Helen J. Dudgeon, 95, of Lynnwood, Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, in her home. A daughter of the late Harrison and Myrtle King Abbott, she was born in Stearns, Ky., on July 8, 1923. Formerly of Kentucky, Helen resided in Lynnwood since 1940 and was a member of the Lynnwood Lutheran Church. She and her husband, Earl Dudgeon, married in 1943. During World War II, she worked for Corning Glass Works. She was a practical nurse at the former Waddington’s Personal Care Home and in private practice. In the 60s, she worked for Standard Pharmacy, K-Mart, and the Peasant Village Restaurant. A graduate of the Charleroi Beauty Academy, she owned and operated Helen’s Beauty Salon. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Cary and Antoinette Dudgeon of Belle Vernon and Bill Dudgeon of Charleroi; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Larry Briggs of Tennessee and Emma Jean and Toby Weber of Florida; 12 grandchildren, Randy Forte, Jeff Forte, Michele Newland, Jill Vukich, David Dudgeon, Michele Ferrara, Donald Dudgeon, Ronnie Dudgeon, Ashley Millon, Leslie Ann Boner, William Dudgeon and Erin Wilson; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dudgeon, on Sept. 30, 1998; a daughter, Sandra Forte in 2009; and a son, Ronald Dudgeon in 2006. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com, 724-929-5300. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Matt Stabe officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of both Diversified Human Services and OSPTA Hospice for their care and compassion in their care of Helen.
