Senior centers put all the pieces together

When Sam Crawford arrived at the Monongahela Senior Center on a recent Friday he was greeted with a surprise — a homemade, two-layer Valentine’s Day cake with red hearts and pink frosting.  

For Crawford, who turned 87 that same day, along with his peers at the center, having a piece of cake was just reward for winning their first-ever puzzle contest.

SPHS Aging Services operates six senior centers throughout the Mon Valley, including Donora Senior Center, Riverside Place in Charleroi, Monongahela Senior Center, Center on the Hill in Washington Township, Perryopolis Senior Center and the Brownfield Satellite Center. 

Center in the Woods in California also participated.
