Trio of local wrestling standouts win WPIAL gold

It was a big weekend for local high school wrestling as three of the 14 young men crowned as WPIAL 2A champions Saturday at Canon MacMillan High School represented the Mon Valley.
Frazier’s Thayne Lawrence, Bentworth’s John Vargo and Ryan Michaels of Elizabeth Forward took home WPIAL gold.
Each of the three competitors entered the tournament as a No. 1 seed and each won in dominating fashion.
For Lawrence, the WPIAL championship was his third at three different weights.
