Boil water advisory in effect for four area communities

Several communities are under a boil water advisory that was issued Tuesday after a transmission line break in the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi’s water system.
According to a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the system experienced a loss of pressure that was caused by the break in the transmission line.
A loss of positive water pressure is a signal of existing conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through backflow by back pressure or back siphonage.
Though the break was fixed on Tuesday, the Authority is asking customers to boil water as a precaution because of the loss of pressure.
