Vincent ‘Jim’ Vaccaro – Monongahela
Vincent “Jim” Vaccaro, 95, of Monongahela, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born Oct. 11, 1923, he was the son of John and Luchresia Vaccaro. Following his graduation in 1941 from Monongahela High School, he attended Douglas School of Business in Monessen until joining the U.S. Army and serving in World War II with the 163rd Combat Engineers. He was stationed in England to help build the bridge over the Seine River. After returning home, he worked for 40 years at the former Associated Box in Monongahela until its closing. A member of the former St. Anthony Catholic Church in Monongahela, he was a member of Monongahela VFW No. 1409 and the former Monongahela I.C.C. Club. Vince enjoyed playing golf, gardening and woodworking, but was especially proud of the cabinets he made in their home. Surviving are his three sons, John and wife Patricia Vaccaro, Vince and wife Charlotte Vaccaro and Dennis and wife Mecca Vaccaro, all of Monongahela; 10 grandchildren, Chris (Danette) Vaccaro, Jeff (Amy) Vaccaro, Damon (Angel) Vaccaro, Darren (Amy) Vaccaro, Dana (Jon) Laughlin, Anthony and Nicholas Vaccaro, Maria (Chad) Ebbitt and Alisha and Tristen Vaccaro; 11 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife of 72 years, Jennie Russo Vaccaro, who died Feb. 8, 2018; his son, Michael T. Vaccaro, who died May 28, 2016; and two sisters, Josephine Myers and Helen Presto. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Feb. 16, 2019. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
