For the first time since 2012, and the first time under head coach Justin Walther, the Serra Catholic boys basketball team can call itself section champion.
The Eagles used a dominant first half to roll to an impressive 77-61 win at second-place California Tuesday to improve to 10-0 in Section 2-2A and clinch a section title for the first time in six seasons.
“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in our short time here,” Walther said. “This is just one step to the (Petersen Events Center). It’s just one step to making it to states.”
The Eagles got off to a hot start using a 13-0 run after the Trojans’ first basket to race to an 18-12 lead after the first quarter.
