It wasn’t the typical effort, but Belle Vernon Area girls basketball coach Ronnie Drennen will take it.

Visiting Mt. Pleasant overcame a lead as high as 11 points to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter of Thursday’s Section 3-4A contest, but the Leopards were able to come back behind junior Rachel Wobrak to escape with a 41-36 win.

With the win, BVA (11-6, 7-3) sits alone in third place in the section standings.

“I think we were really frustrated because we couldn’t put the ball in the hoop and we weren’t creating turnovers,” Drennen said of his team’s performance. “We didn’t want to play at their pace, and that’s what we were forced to do.”
