A Charleroi man accused of smashing his girlfriend’s head into the wall and assaulting her while she was holding her 3-year-old toddler on New Year’s Eve has been released from jail after posting $10,000 bail.
William M. Jackson, 58, of Fallowfield Avenue, was charged with simple assault and harassment for the alleged assault.
He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Joshua P. Kanalis Tuesday morning and transported to the Washington County Correctional Facility, but was released Wednesday after posting bail through a security bondsman.
Charleroi Regional Police officer Chase Colucci said he received a call from Washington County 911 around 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve for a report of an assault at a Fallowfield Avenue residence.
The woman told police Jackson struck her in the face and smashed her head into a wall following an argument.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the woman told police she and a friend were planning to go to a New Year’s Eve party later that night.
When she told Jackson about the party, he allegedly “became irate and started punching walls and knocking over objects in the house.”
After throwing the child’s car seat down the stairs, the woman attempted to leave with her child. Before she could make it down the stairs, Jackson allegedly punched her in the face while she was holding her child and then grabbed her and pushed her head into a wall.
Police found Jackson at a Sixth Street residence and transported him to the police department for questioning.
Jackson faces a preliminary hearing 10 a.m. Jan 10.
